Letters of Support

Randy Johnson

The Canyons School district was created with our children in mind. It was created with the hope that by having more local control the district would be better able to serve the students in the district. In order to increase the success of our students we need people willing to question the status quo, and respectfully listen, and respond, to the relevant stake holders when making decisions regarding our children's education. He is an independent thinker, who always puts students first. Clay Pearce is the best person for the job in district 3.

I would appreciate you voting for Clay Pearce.

Sincerely,
Randy Johnson

CHVoters Election Committee

Dear CHVoters,

Last week we met with the all of the Primary Candidates for School Board and the Utah Senate (only the Democrats are having a primary). Prior to the general election we will meet with all the candidates(Republicans and Democrats) and go through this process again. Here are the impressions that we came away with last week:

SCHOOL BOARD: WE ENDORSE CLAY PEARCE

There is a need within the Canyons School District to increase open conversation between the board, teachers, and parents. The consensus from all the candidates was that the board needed to take charge of the District and the Superintendent needed to follow the board’s lead. Currently the Superintendent is leading and directing the board.

They all thought that the district was doing many things well but all had been clouded by the lack of civility and professional management in the board. So our decision focused on who could be strong enough to influence a change in board behavior yet experienced enough to lower the level of contention on the board.

We recommend that Clay Pearce be supported for the board seat at the Canyons School district. Clay has 25 years of experience in the education system. He has taught, administered and is currently running programs for ‘at risk kids’. He works in the Granite School District. His wide array of experience would come in handy for any board member. His temperament may be an asset for developing new board policy and management practices. Whoever is elected will be dealing with a need to work well with the state. We think Clay has those skills necessary to do the job.

Not only is this election important because it is a presidential election, the election for Canyons District is almost as important for those living in the district. Please look into the candidates and please vote. The district is in need of someone who is willing to do what is best for all parties. Clay will look at the issues and not be forced to vote with the group. Clay has education background and understands how schools work. I give him my full support and ask my friends to do their research before they vote.

Paul Hansen - Sandy, Utah

I am pleased to offer my complete endorsement of Clay Pearce who is running as a candidate for the Canyons School District Board of Education. I have known Clay for many years and he is a man that will represent the best interest of our children and grandchildren. The defined difference between Clay Pearce and other candidates is clear. In a time when Mayors and elected officials are anxious to offer their endorsements to candidates with the expectation that the candidates they endorse will vote to divert precious educational dollars away from our children and into city coffers to fund RDA Projects, and other city projects, Clay Pearce will not put such politics ahead of the best decisions for his and our children. Utah spends the least amount of money per pupil of any State in the United States to educate children therefore the Canyons Board of Education needs members that truly understand which projects and decisions are in the best interest of the education of our children and they need members who are not bound by political endorsement or pressure to vote in favor of decisions that are not directly in the best interest of our children.
Clay believes in being open and has no conflicts of interest that will bind his decisions as a Canyons Board of Education member. He is a man of integrity who believes in community engagement and openness. He believes that elected board members should not only be encouraged to meet with constituents, including teachers and administrators, but is bound by elected obligation to do so. He believes that the superintendent of a school district is appointed and empowered by the local Board of Education and that the community will look to the Superintendent to understand and define the local Board of Education. He recognizes that all educators including the superintendent function under the auspices of public trust. When there are issues raised that need clear investigation, he will support such investigation in a spirit of openness and objectivity.
On my porch when I visited with Clay, his concluding statements to me were critical. After listening to my concerns he said,
“It concerns me that there is a movement within the school district administration and Board of Education to impede open and clear communication between the Canyons School District Board of Education and members of the community, including teachers and administrators. When parents share with you their precious children, I take that as a sacred responsibility. Working in an open and collaborative manner with parents, teachers, administrators and communities will strengthen our school district and enhance the achievement and success of our children.”
“Paul, I can promise you that I will vote for decisions that I’m convinced are in the best interest of students and teachers in the Canyons School District. I owe that to you, to our children and grandchildren. If political agendas don’t align with what I feel is in the best interest of our children you can plan on me voting accordingly.

There  several reasons to vote for Clay Pearce for Canyons School Board member, but perhaps the most important reason is that he is an EDUCATOR.  It is imperative to have someone who not only has a voice for our children, but also a voice for our teachers.  There are many great leaders on the board, i.e, business leaders, small business owners, politicians, and public servants.  But no one understands the education system more completely than a teacher.  Mr. Pearce will bring a well-rounded and FAIR viewpoint to the Canyons School Board.

Respectfully,
Tori Lima
